We’ve been busy in the Ferg house the last few weeks. We haven’t been out of town or entertaining all that much, but I feel like we’ve been on the go. I can’t find my camera battery (REF, do you know where it is?!) so I don’t have many pictures, but I thought I’d do a little run down of what we’ve been up to & what I’m looking forward to for the summer.
- R & I finally broke down & signed up with a personal trainer. I was sick of not following through with plans to get fit. I hate spending money so I knew if I paid for something I would do it 100%. I was also sick of the way I felt about myself. The only way to change that was going to be through hard work. We are going twice a week to meet with the trainer. We’ve now seen him 3x & honestly I already see a difference in my strength. We have an online system where we follow a workout routine on the days that we aren’t with Jon (trainer). We also have to keep a food journal. I think for me this is going to be what keeps me going. It was pretty hard to explain why I needed 3 pieces of pizza & 4 beers last weekend. Ha!
- Last Saturday I was able to go on a super long walk with Baby J & his mom, MK. I absolutely love LONG brisk walks. Since MK used to live in NYC being able to go on a walk with her still feels like a treat even though they’ve been living in Charlotte for over a year!
- This summer we have TWO separate family reunions with both sides of my family. I know most people might think of this as a HAVE to, but I love my extended family. We don’t get to see them too much since everyone is spread out across the US so I’m really looking forward to catching up with everyone. Some of my cousins have children that I’ve never met before!
- This weekend I’m celebrating one of my old college roommate’s 30th birthdays & I get to meet another college roommate’s new boyfriend. I cannot explain how excited I am for both of these things!
- Also right around the corner is my camp best friend’s 30th birthday party! I’m so glad that we’re going to be able to celebrate it together…as it was touch and go there for a bit with scheduling conflicts. She and her husband also met at camp so I know there will be lots of folks at the party that R & I haven’t seen in a long time!
- The 4th of July is my absolute favorite holiday (Go AMERICA!) and right now we don’t have any plans. This is causing me a bit of anxiety, but maybe it would be nice to just be at home?!
- Speaking of America…who’s excited for the Olympics?! REF & I absolutely LOVE the Olympics. 4 years ago when we got home from our honeymoon the Olympics were there to soften the blow of being back to reality!
I hope you all have some fun plans for summer months, too!
xoxo

YAY for the trainer!! The journal thing does keep you in check! Brad and I were just doing it on our phones for a while and would be like, OMG!
I love family events too. I’m right there with you.
And, 4th of July is my favorite holiday!! I love everything about it! Here is an old post about my favorite 4th moments..
http://deewallaceadventures.blogspot.com/2009/06/fourth-of-july-memories.html
that year I got engaged on July 3rd!! HA! This year we’re revealing the gender of the baby to our parents!
Maybe you guys could drive up to DC by yourselves? It really is the best experience!
That’s so funny you suggested DC. I actually have been thinking about that. I would love to do that, but I’ve not sure with all the other stuff we have going on this summer that’s the best use of our $$!
Bravo to you guys for hiring the personal trainer. I know that money is not easy to spend, but consider it an investment! That is really wonderful, K.
I, too, have been trying to firm up for the summer and have really been trying to eat healthier and work out more often. Even last night, when it was so pleasant out, Ian told me that he thought about asking me to go out with him for a beer, but he knew that I was “watching my figure.” It’s sweet that he’s supporting me, but dang if that didn’t make me want that beer so badly!
I asked the trainer what I could drink on Saturday for my roommate’s 30th that wouldn’t totally mess up the work that I had put in all week. He sort of just smiled. Ha! This girl loves a great beer on the patio! I think we worked it out that if I drank in moderation & specific things I would be okay!
I LOVE THE OLYMPICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok was that aggressive enough? I love them. I cry every time I hear the National Anthem played, too. The 2010 winter Olympics were happening/ending right when I started dating John and I remember being out on our 2nd date (8 hours long!) and the coverage was on in the bar/restaurant we went to and worrying, “Oh gosh I hope the US doesn’t win right now or I’ll cry in front of this guy!!”
Yay Olympics! I feel the same way about ’08 Olympics and coming back from our honeymoon. It made reality so much easier.
Also, we have no 4th plans either! I hadn’t really thought about it, but with all we have going on, it hadn’t even crossed my mind!
The fourth of July is my absolute favorite holiday as well!!! I’m a little stumped with it being on a Weds this year! That would be a really long weekend to plan for the beach!
I’m jealous of your trainer. Since I just signed up to be fatter for the next 9 months, I should probably get on some sort of work out plan.
I love the Olympics! I’m super excited for them to start.
I love your posts! I’m so proud of y’all with the trainer! Y’all are going to do awesome with him and will be showing off all the moves to everyone else come Fall! Can’t wait for you to come this weekend to help celebrate! Y’all are the best! We don’t have plans for the 4th either and it makes me sad…boo for being an adult and having to work! Can’t wait for The Olympics…especially curling! Love you!
