Last weekend REF and I worked on the yard. If you have a yard you understand how yard work is seriously never ending. Anyhow, I worked on getting the spring bulbs and pansies planted while REF worked on staining the deck.
I planted about 125 bulbs in the pile of dirt. I’m guessing that about 2/3 will bloom. It’s only been a couple of days and I’m already obsessing about them. I’m worried that the squirrels or deer will dig them up and eat them. I’m worried that I planted them too deep or too shallow. I’m worried that I won’t like the WAY that I planted them and they’ll be all wonky. Clearly, I obsess over things that I can’t control.
I put bulbs in the window boxes and the pots on our front porch! I’m actually pretty excited to see if these come up. When the summer comes I’ll simply “replant” the bulbs in my pile of dirt in the back to add to that section.
REF’s dad came down on Saturday morning to help REF get started on staining the deck. I was actually up in Boone hanging out with friends for homecoming. REF and his dad worked ALL day on deck. REF worked for about 4 hours on Sunday too, but then we and our Lowes ran out of stain! We still have a bunch to do next weekend, but it is looking great. I’m really impressed with REF’s hard work!
I thought I would add this picture of Winston and his frienemy, Henry. They have a love/hate relationship. Henry loves Winston. Winston hates Henry.

The flowers and pumpkins look so cute! And PS – I obsess about flowers growing too….I think that’s why all mine die!
now you have me in suspense about the bulbs you planted! you must post pics once they sprout!
I love the yellow color you painted your front door. Was wondering what color your porch rockers are. Are they black or walnut color & if they can be bought online somewhere. Was googling and came across your blog. I have enjoyed reading it.
Hey Ruthie,
I’m sorry to take so long to get back with you, but I was away from the computer all weekend. I’m not 100% on the color of the front door. We actually had it matched at Lowes from a Sherwin Williams color. We did try SEVERAL colors out, and the doors still look different shades of yellow at different times of the day. I would suggest doing the same thing since yellow looks so drastically different depending on the light. Our rockers are black. They are from Lowes & few years old, but I think they still have them there. I believe they were $99/each. I’m glad you stumbled across my blog!
