4 Years

by KT on July 26, 2012

Four years ago today REF  & I got married.

It was a whirlwind of a weekend & was gone in the blink of an eye, but man was it fun.  We had SO many of our family members there to celebrate with us & our friends, too.  I remember thinking on Sunday afternoon I couldn’t believe that it was over & we were really husband & wife!

I’m not very good with the sentimental stuff…I actually leave that to REF.

So, I’ll just say it’s been a wonderful 4 years & I can’t wait to celebrate many, many more.

xoxo

Lifesaver

by KT on July 13, 2012

In 2006 R & I had been dating for about 1.5 years when we were invited to a wedding for a friend of R’s.  The friend & his fiance were registered at a lovely gift shop here in Charlotte.  One that I happened to love window shopping in.  So, when R mentioned he wanted me to pick out their wedding gift I jumped at the opportunity.  It was during this particular trip to the gift shop that I was introduced to “possibly the most beautiful tableware in the world”, Juliska.

I knew right then and there that THIS was the place setting that I wanted to have when I got married.  So, a year later when we were engaged I registered for the Berry & Thread pattern in white wash & pistachio.  I also registered for the Graham mouth blown stemware.

I have LOVED these pieces.  I love how simple, but beautiful they are.  I love how since each piece is handmade they are all just a tad bit different.  I love how they aren’t the run of the mill department/mall store brand.  I love that they are easy enough for everyday, but still beautiful to serve on to company.  I also love that two years later my cousin’s future wife (who has immaculate taste) unknowingly chose the same patterns.  I love the family joke that subsequently followed.

What haven’t I loved?

Well….my silverware was leaving unsightly gray markings on all my pretty Juliska.  After changing dish washing detergents, washing by hand, etc. I called Juliska to tell them about the problem.  They said that I could turn all my pieces into the store where they were bought & get new pieces (pretty awesome customer service) or I could try a product called, Bar Keepers Friend

Well….fast forward from 2009 to last Saturday when I finally decided to try this stuff out.  You see, I knew it would be a project & I knew I needed a time when I was alone in the house to just ‘deal’ with scrubbing all 12 of our place settings & accessories.  Then I wanted to switch out our everyday silverware with the nicer stuff that my mom got us for our wedding.   I also knew after scrubbing I’d want to run them through the dishwasher.  And…I knew R would HATE this project.  So, while he went out to dinner with a client & then to get drinks with the guys on Saturday I hunkered down & got to work.

Did it work?

YOU BET IT DID!!!  I cannot tell you how happy it made me to see my beautiful plates & bowls again.  I had seriously forgotten how pretty my Juliska really is.

I know this stuff can be used for a whole host of other things so lovers of Bar Keepers Friend let me hear what you use it for!  I can’t wait to try it in other areas around the house.

Also, if you’re getting married in the future I would HIGHLY recommend  Juliska.  It can be found at specialty stores, high end department stores like, Neimans & Bloomingdales, and online.

PS – I wasn’t compensated for this post by either Juliska or Bar Keeper’s Friend…I just LOVE both brands.

Sweet Summer Time

by KT on July 12, 2012

We’ve been enjoying our summer a bunch so far.  We haven’t had too many obligations & we’ve found ourselves just staying close to home on the weekends.  I’ve tried to disconnect from social media little bit & that’s been nice, but I feel like I’ve really neglected the blog.  I’m going to attempt to update things a bit.

  • We got R’s niece off to Camp Cheerio for her first week as a Cheerio camper.  She didn’t go with a friend & I was really nervous she wouldn’t love Cheerio as much as I do.  Luckily, she had the best week & is definitely going back next summer.  We received this letter from her & I think it is just the cutest thing.

  •  We had a great time in Birmingham visiting with my mom’s side of the family.  It was the first time I had ever gone on a trip with a toddler (is an 8th month old a toddler?).  Let me just tell you that he was seriously an angel, but I have a totally new respect for moms who drive long distances with their children.  We hit crazy Atlanta traffic, then construction traffic when we got into Alabama.

This picture is from about hour 3 of our car ride with Charlie & his 5th hour in the car.  I feel like his expression is saying “Are we there yet?”.

The ladies & Charlie did a day at the Birmingham Zoo while the guys golfed.

We also had a great time swimming in my grandparents’ pool.  Charlie really liked the water!

  • Just like everyone else in the country we’ve had some really hot weather.  REF & I have been continuing with our workout routines despite the heat.  I got this awesome text a few Saturdays ago.

  • Speaking of working out.  REF’s lost 11 pounds & I’ve lost 6 pounds.  More importantly for me is that I’ve lost 4% BMI.  I was pretty proud of that.  I’ve definitely seen the the difference in REF, but not necessarily in myself.  My clothes fit better so I know that something is happening.  I’ve been trying to cut grains & dairy out.  So my meals look a lot like the picture below.

  • We met up with some of our friends including Allie from Key Ingredients for the Pops in the Park annual 4th of July celebration.  This year it was on the 3rd of July.  It sure was HOT, but it was a really nice night!

  • On the actual 4th we were invited to a handful of BBQs.  We felt so blessed to be invited to so many fun parties, but we were definitely tired come the 5th.  The 4th is my favorite holiday & so this year R & I went all out with decorating our house.

The past few years we met up with my parents at their country club to watch the fireworks.  We did it again this year with their friends, their friends’ kids & grand-kids.  It was a lot of fun to catch up with everyone again.

So far it’s been a really nice summer.  I’m going to attempt to do a better job of blogging in the future, too.

Missing In Action

by KT on July 11, 2012

So, Sunday I took my beautiful engagement ring & two wedding bands off in our house & put them somewhere. Where is still a mystery.  I’ve turned the house upside down, but still can’t find those suckers.

I just know that as soon as I deal with insurance they will turn up, but in the meantime I might be going to wally world to find a fake to wear.

Please say a little prayer to St. Anthony that I find them….
