This little man just got home from his first wedding and his SECOND plane ride! I bet he’ll have more stamps in his passport then me in 10 years!

Last weekend REF and I worked on the yard. If you have a yard you understand how yard work is seriously never ending. Anyhow, I worked on getting the spring bulbs and pansies planted while REF worked on staining the deck.
I planted about 125 bulbs in the pile of dirt. I’m guessing that about 2/3 will bloom. It’s only been a couple of days and I’m already obsessing about them. I’m worried that the squirrels or deer will dig them up and eat them. I’m worried that I planted them too deep or too shallow. I’m worried that I won’t like the WAY that I planted them and they’ll be all wonky. Clearly, I obsess over things that I can’t control.
I put bulbs in the window boxes and the pots on our front porch! I’m actually pretty excited to see if these come up. When the summer comes I’ll simply “replant” the bulbs in my pile of dirt in the back to add to that section.
REF’s dad came down on Saturday morning to help REF get started on staining the deck. I was actually up in Boone hanging out with friends for homecoming. REF and his dad worked ALL day on deck. REF worked for about 4 hours on Sunday too, but then we and our Lowes ran out of stain! We still have a bunch to do next weekend, but it is looking great. I’m really impressed with REF’s hard work!
I thought I would add this picture of Winston and his frienemy, Henry. They have a love/hate relationship. Henry loves Winston. Winston hates Henry.

ME: I forgot that I committed us to dinner with friends on Friday.
REF: Ok, that’s unlike you.
ME: I didn’t put it in the life planner and if it doesn’t go in the life planner it isn’t real.
REF: Where are we going to dinner?

Saturday morning REF and I were up bright and early. We enjoyed the “free” breakfast in the lobby, showered, dressed and headed over to the stadium to put tailgate tables up. We ended up with a car full of tailgate stuff that needed to be set up. I’m still not sure how that happened, but neither of us cared. It meant that we got to park right in the stadium. We headed back to campus in the morning to take some pictures and walk around. We took 6 versions of the picture above and I don’t like any of them. I had my fingers crossed we’d get a Christmas card picture out of it, but no dice.
Tailgate was great! We are lucky enough to be friends with some folks that have great WFU connections. We had 3 spaces directly across from the stadium. We had SO MUCH food, tents, tons of chairs and a flat screen TV.
Most of our WFU family had their little ones at home, but we got a special treat when some grandparents brought this cutie by to say hello! He was seriously the main attraction for the hour that he was there. Isn’t he cute?
REF and I even got a visit from my old mentor and his old WFU friend, Sara. I was so excited to see her. I the last time I saw her was 6 years ago!
Things got a little crazy as the day went on.
Wake lost the game, but I think we all had a good time despite the loss. It was a LONG weekend, but definitely a fun one!

The third weekend in October REF and I made our way up to Winston Salem for his 10 year college reunion from Wake Forest! We had great plans that week of being SUPER organized and ahead of game. We wanted to leave Charlotte at a reasonable hour in order to make dinner with all our friends. Thursday night after we got home from the hospital visiting baby Jack we packed and organized all our stuff. I had even baked and iced 48 cupcakes! The plan Friday was to meet at home at 3:00pm and jet out of town!
I was able to work through lunch and got home 30 minutes ahead of REF. I finished packing all of our stuff and loaded up the car. When REF got home he just quickly changed his clothes and we were on the road! It wasn’t even 3:00pm yet! We were thrilled!
The first hiccup came when we realized that we didn’t pack our tailgate chairs, no big deal. We can get new ones while we’re there or do without. The next glitch came 30 minutes away from our house when we realized that is was “RACE WEEKEND” in Charlotte. We’re talking NASCAR kids, and this means traffic for DAYS. We ended up sitting in standstill Charlotte traffic for an hour. NO BIG DEAL, we’re ahead of schedule, right? We finally got to Winston Salem at about 10 after 5:00. We thought this was a pretty good cushion. We went straight to campus to pick up our homecoming packet and to grab REF a new shirt for game day. We ran into a few friends and enjoyed a BEAUTIFUL fall afternoon. Then we leisurely made our way to the hotel.
We arrived at the hotel at 6:00pm…dinner was at 7:00, but we’re both super fast. I grabbed us some coffee and hopped in the shower. While I was in shower REF asked where I had put his hang up clothes. I instantly froze. His hang up clothes?! I hadn’t seen those! I peaked out of the shower and let him know I didn’t pack them. Our eyes met and we realized he had NO CLOTHES for our nice dinner out and then reunion party later that evening. He does NOT over pack. OH MY GOSH! I quickly yelled for him to just jump in the car and head to the mall. He grabbed his shoes and keys and left. This was 6:20. I finished up in the shower and got on my phone. I googled for Jos A. Banks. I knew they were typically in shopping centers and not in malls, which could be faster. They told me where they were located and I told the man on the phone that my husband would be running in and needed dress pants, dress shirts and possibly a blue blazer, asap. I gave them his measurements, which I didn’t know I knew, but somehow found in the recesses of my brain. Then I called REF and told him to head there.
To my amazement REF walked in the door at 6:48 with a bag of new clothes. He jumped in the shower while I ironed his shirt. He shaved and was dressed. We were in the lobby at 6:55pm. I told you we were fast. When we finally had a chance to breath REF told me that it wasn’t my fault about the clothes. Apparently he had RE-HUNG them in our closet on Thursday night. They were not with the rest of his stuff. I still felt pretty badly, but luckily the folks at Jos A. Banks helped him and they had a SUPER sale going on so we didn’t spend TOO much (No, Jos A. Banks did not pay us to say this).
Here is a picture of the majority of our group at dinner. I’ll do a post on the game and the 10 hour tailgate tomorrow.

I certainly didn’t intend my post about becoming an aunt to be my last, but remember when I talked about how I had a lot going on this fall here? Well, I wasn’t kidding. I’ve been much more busy then I anticipated. I got run down enough that I had to cancel a few fun outings, but for the most part I’ve been on the GO!
I’ll attempt to pick things back up where I left off. The weekend after Charlie was born I headed back up to see my sister and sweet nephew. I just did laundry, cleaned dishes, made meals and did a little grocery shopping. I was happy to be there to see Charlie and to try to give my sister and brother in law a bit of a break.
Charlie is doing well! My sister thinks he might be going through a growth spurt right now. She texted me to this picture yesterday of the little guy right after he rolled over for the first time! I have NO idea when babies are supposed to do this, but it seems advanced since he isn’t even 1 month old yet!
The following week we got another surprise when my BFF went into labor 9 days early! John Noah was born on October 12 at 7:06pm. He was 6lbs 13 oz and 20.5 inches long. Jack is doing great and so are his mom and dad! They’ve been so awesome to let me drop by to squeeze the little guy.
This was the second time I had a chance to meet Jack. REF and I brought dinner by the hospital to our friends, the new proud parents. We even smuggled pumpkin beers in!
The next day REF and I were off to Winston Salem, NC for Wake Forest Homecoming. This was REF’s 10 year reunion. I’ll post about that tomorrow… no, really, I will!
xoxo

On Friday morning I was sitting at my desk and had an urge to call my mom to check in on her. She was on her way to the triangle to spend the morning with my sister. They were going to run errands that day. I was scheduled to travel up to the triangle myself on Saturday morning. My sister and I were going to take care of some last minute details before her baby arrived. Little baby Charlie had a different plan. At approximately 9:42pm on September 30, 2011 Charles Petersen came into this world. He weighed 7 pounds 4 ounces and was 21.5 inches long.
My sister and brother-in-law were completely calm and relaxed. They called to say that Charlie was here and my mom, dad and I rushed over to the hospital to meet him!
I think Charlie looks extra small next to his daddy!
My mom and dad spent Saturday doing errands for the new parents and I spent the day in the hospital holding my new nephew. Elizabeth and I had fun changing his clothes a bunch and I even changed two very dirty diapers! I just love his cable knit onesie with the train on his feet! I know this little boy will visit most of his family by train!
My parents had a wedding to attend in Chapel Hill on Saturday night so they stopped by the hospital on the way to the wedding. I think they might win the award for the most dressed up grandparents!
Look how comfortable that little boy is with his mommy.
This is after my first attempt at a swaddle. I did NOT do too well. I think I need to go to aunt class or practice on Winston.
On Sunday Charlie got to come home for the first time and REF was there to meet him. REF just talked away to little Charlie. He must really love that little guy, because prior to Charlie getting home Grandma had him washing my sister and brother-in-law’s windows!
My dad “Grumpy” was so nervous to hold Charlie. He claims that my mom never let him hold my sister or me.
REF and I wanted to see how the fabric sling thing worked so Charlie got to take his first ride inside of it on Sunday afternoon.
I can’t believe my big sister has a baby and I can’t believe that I’m an aunt. I have to say that being an aunt so far is the coolest thing I’ve ever had happen to me. I’m totally 100% in love with this boy. He’s been the first thing that I think of when I get up in the morning and the last thing I think of when I go to sleep. I cannot wait to get back up to their house to hold him some more.
This last picture was taken on my iphone after I swaddled him up using those miracle blankets. I just love the concerned face he is giving us.
